GEORGIA Studies Teacher (Grade 8) AT Charles R. Drew Charter School Junior Academy

Courtney Wade is an 8th-grade Georgia History teacher at Drew Charter School in the Junior Academy. She is a passionate and creative educator who brings her love for history to life for her students through storytelling and art. Courtney finds joy in embracing her individuality and cherishing time with her family.

Guided by the school’s principle that “if every JA student is not thriving, then we have more work to do,” Courtney is deeply committed to her students’ growth and success. She strives to understand who her students are, meets them where they are, and pushes them to grow in meaningful ways. Showing up authentically and giving her best every day is at the core of her teaching philosophy.

Fostering connections is at the heart of Alexis’s work, both in life and in the classroom. Whether through collaborative problem-solving, building inclusive communities, or inspiring curiosity and growth in her students, she is driven by a commitment to equity and a belief in education’s transformative power. Her approach centers on creating opportunities for all learners to succeed by designing environments where diverse perspectives are valued and every individual feels empowered to reach their potential and exercise their autonomy.

In her classroom, Alexis prioritizes enthusiasm, empathy, and innovation to ensure every student feels seen, supported, and inspired to learn.
