Nia Coates (she/her/hers) is a math teacher at River Trail Middle School, specializing in teaching algebra and geometry to gifted middle school students. Her strengths as an educator include creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment, making advanced concepts accessible, and inspiring students to reach their fullest potential.

Nia finds joy in witnessing her students grow in confidence and take pride in their accomplishments, particularly as they overcome challenges in math. Outside the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing soccer, and relaxing with her orange cat, Fire Lord Ozai.

Passionate about making math education accessible and equitable, Nia is especially committed to supporting gifted Black students and children of immigrants. She is dedicated to addressing systemic barriers and fostering a classroom where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.

In her teaching, Nia strives to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a deep love of learning in her students.
